G-nuts (peanuts) are a staple food product in Atiriu, but there is nowhere in the village to have roasted g-nuts ground into the highly desirable paste used in many local dishes. Ladies must grind by hand or travel 30 km to Rumbek to have their g-nuts processed. A local grinding mill will allow farmers to increase their income through value addition to the natural crop. G-nut paste can be sold in local markets or used for home consumption. As an added bonus, the mill will provide sustainable income to ACROSS’ Atiriu Agricultural Training Centre.
